We are proud to be the sole UK distributor of Bitossi products.
Italian artistic ceramics with a rich design heritage.
Bitossi can trace their roots as far back as the early 1870’s in Montelupo, Fiorentino, Italy, where they are still based to this day. The company have always been willing to push the boundaries of possibility with both the materials and the glazes and indeed are at the forefront internationally of development of the latter.
Bitossi was driven forward in the 1960’s by Aldo Londi who was not only a prolific designer but also creative director and responsible for starting a series collaborations with internationally respected designers. The first of these was Ettore Sottsass who created the classic 502 vase.
Today Bitossi is still housed on the original site, still throw many of the ceramic pieces by hand and still try to push the boundaries of possibility. They have built a catalogue of collaborators including Ettore Sottsass, Piero Fornasetti, Karim Rashid, Arik Levy, Fabio Novembre, George Sowden, Natalie du Pasquier, and Benjamin Hubert.
On December 2nd, 2014 Bitossi Ceramiche was officially entitled as a member of the Registry of Italian Historical Companies, instituted by the Italian National Union of Chambers of Commerce.
We are proud to be the UK distributor of Chemex products.
Iconic no-nonsense filter coffee maker and accessories from Massachusetts, USA.
The classic Chemex coffee maker was designed by Dr Peter Schlumbohm PhD in 1941. Taking a chemists’ rather than a product designers’ view of the process of brewing coffee resulted in the elegant Chemex filter coffee maker. Made from Borosilicate glass (the same as used for laboratory test tubes and boiling flasks) with a polished wooden collar held in place with a leather tie. Each part is inherently functional. Trust a scientist!
The collection is complemented by a kettle and heavy filter papers to ensure a clear, pure, flavourful brew every time. Simple and functional.
The Chemex is held in the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Corning Museum of Glass, and was selected by the Illinois Institute of Technology as one of the best 100 products of modern times. It also features regularly in the media from adverts to film, Friends to Rosemary’s Baby and many more in-between.
