Since the 60s, famous names have created great art which Rosenthal has immortalized in porcelain. Thereby, numerous beautiful vases have been created for the Rosenthal studio-line. On the one hand, timeless, on the other hand speaking for the design of their time, these objects will delight you, even without flowers.
In 2012, the eyes of the design world were trained on Helsinki, the World Design Capital. Rosenthal marked this occasion by reissuing a number of classics from the extremely successful Rosenthal studio-line. The collection is limited to the year 2012 and are specially back-stamped.
Tapio Wirkkala was a graphic designer, interior designer and one of the best- known contemporary designers worldwide. He had worked for the design studio Raymond Loewy in New York and gained fame, when his works won 4 Grand Prix and 3 gold medals in the subsequent Milan Triennales of 1951 and 1954.
Wirkkala had been working for Rosenthal as from 1957. His unforgettable porcelain, glass and cutlery designs include ‘Century’, ‘Composition’, 'Kurve', ‘Polygon’ and Variation’.
The table-service ‘Century’ has been accepted in the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris as an example of contemporary art. ‘Variation’ is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
