Manufactured by Vitra.
These sculptural, chess-like stools were designed for the lobby of the Time-Life Building on 6th Avenue, New York City. When it opened in 1960, Ray Eames was commissioned to create a versatile, occasional piece that would compliment the lobby's chairs, designed by Charles.
Eames intended these to be used not only as stools, but also as low side tables, vase stands, or simple as an attractive, abstract decorative piece.
