Accessories to be used in conjunction with the stacking beds.
Neckroll & backcushion to transform your bed into a sofa.
Designed in 1967, and pre-dating modern flat-pack culture, the Stapelliege was a major innovation. Inspired by the spatial restraints of 60s living, the modular pieces are stacked to create a sofa daybed, which is converted to a bed within seconds.
The beds are sold individually but intended to be used as pair, stacked during the day as a sofa and with the top level simply lifted off at night to accommodate sleeping guests.
Featured in Brigette - Germany's first magazine to advertise furniture - is represented a significant change in German living, having both a 'logical appearance' in which form followed function, and a unique practicality. Simple brackets allowed the user to dismantle, carry and rebuild the bed elsewhere. "I wanted to design an practical, affordable item that also expressed that generations aspirations. Flexibility was very important back then".
Still manufactured in Germany, almost entirely by hand, the rounded edges ensure the modules slot together comfortably and easily.
In 2003, Heide won the Cologne Furniture Fair Design Prize for this design.
