Frequently Asked Questions

 

How much is delivery?

We have tried to keep things simple. For mainland UK deliveries there is a flat rate of £5.95 for all orders under £600 regardless of the number of items ordered. This way you know how much you will pay before you start to shop (we also hate it when you have to shop & checkout before finding out delivery charges are extortionate!). Higher charges apply for the Highlands & Islands. Above £600 we charge a diminishing percentage of the order value. For full details please click here

When will I receive my order?

If an item is in stock we will aim to despatch within 3 working days (although often we can send the item the same day the order is placed). Your order will normally be with you between 3-7 days depending on which carrier is used and the day the order is placed.

Is my item in stock?

We try to hold stock of all ‘non furniture’ items and some furniture here in Saltaire. If an item is not in stock has to be ordered for you the estimated lead time will be shown below the item’s description.

Can I pick my order up?

Of course you can. When you go to the checkout please just click the box to ‘Click & Collect’ under your details. There is no charge and of course you will save yourself any delivery costs. We will email you to let you know when the order is ready to collect and then just pop into our showroom in Salts Mill. We are open seven days a week from 10am, closing at 5.30pm Monday-Friday and 6pm Saturday and Sunday.

I’m in a real rush, I forgot my wife’s / brother’s / mum’s / dog’s birthday. Can it be here quicker than that?

We like to try and help. Please just give us a call and we will see what we can do.

Can my parcel be left in my shed?

Unfortunately no, all our parcels have to be signed for when delivered. However, we are happy to send your order to a work address or neighbour. Please just add the delivery address in the relevant area as you checkout.

What happens if I change my mind?

Not a problem. If your order hasn’t been shipped please just call or email us as quickly as possible and we can make the relevant changes. If you have received your order simply return the unused item in the original packaging within seven days and let us know if you would like a refund or an exchange. What happens if there is a problem?

Behind the site we are all very approachable, helpful human beings who like nothing better than getting it right. However, from time to time things happen but don’t worry! Do you store my details for future orders?

You can set up an account and add / manage your home and delivery addresses. This will make any future orders much easier. You can also manage your past and current orders from your account page.

I don’t want to set up an account.

No problem, just shop and checkout in the usual way.

Are my card details safe?

Yes. We use Worldpay to process all transactions so you know your details are safe. We also accept all major credit and debit cards.

‘The Home Online’, who are you?

The Home Online is the trading website of The Home. We are a team of like-minded design aficionados who are happiest digging out unusual and interesting items, new or forgotten classic and appreciate when something is well designed and well made (we also enjoy cake making, whittling, cycling, quilting, 1950’s burlesque, snake charming, Jurassic Park and Bradford City).

Do you have a proper shop?

We certainly do, 10,000 square feet of wonderful products wonderfully displayed. We are on the second floor of Salts Mill in Saltaire which also houses restaurants, book shops, jewellery, antiques, cycles and the largest permanent collection of works by artist and National Treasure David Hockney. We are 20 minutes from Leeds by train or 30 minutes from the M606 by car.

Is your furniture genuine?

Yes, we only stock licensed originals. This goes for our furniture and our accessories. The market has been swamped in recent years by fake mid-century designs but you will find no ‘inspired by’ or ‘in the style of’ at The Home Online. We know the products you buy from us are made to the highest standard and with the finest materials, just as the original designer, be it Eames, Mies, or Le Corbusier, intended.

So what is ‘licensed’ furniture?

When the designer first developed his furniture it was often in association with a manufacturer and together they ensured that the sizes, materials and processes were the very best possible. The manufacturing rights are then licensed to a company who have a duty to continue to meet these high criteria. In recent years many of these iconic pieces of mid-century furniture have been mercilessly copied, often in China, and sold to unsuspecting customers. Everyone knows you can buy a fake Rolex or Louis Vuitton bag but many people don’t even realise there is such a thing as a fake Eames’ chair or Le Corbusier chaise. At The Home Online we will never sell a fake or copy. We believe in good design, we believe it should be well made and we believe that you are investing in a piece to cherish and pass on, not a disposable chair ‘in the style of’.

Will you ship internationally?

Yes. We are happy to ship internationally, just select your delivery country at the checkout, click ‘update’ and the delivery cost will be shown. If your home country is not listed please just send us an email. We will calculate the most economical way to ship and let you know the total cost. If you live outside the EU we will also deduct 20% VAT from the order. However you must pay any local import taxes or duties.
